Prince Albert had long been thought of as a playboy while his father was the monarch of Monaco. He was known for his carefree lifestyle, much of which he learned while attending college in the United States.

Since Prince Albert has taken over the throne in Monaco, he has changed his ways and become a leader concerned about the future of the second smallest country in the world. To this end, he has worked hard to protect the environment of Monaco.

Prince Albert takes such a remarkable interest in the global warming cause in part because his small country sits on the Mediterranean Sea. As the level of the seas slowly rose, he became quite concerned that Monaco would be disastrously affected. In April 2006 he journeyed to the North Pole to make a point about the seriousness of global warming and saw first-hand how glaciers were slowly melting.

Environmental and social issues are a big part of Prince Albert’s agenda. He has gone to great lengths to heighten awareness of global warming and ways to work together to protect the environment. The first act that Prince Albert achieved in his environmental efforts was to sign the Kyoto Protocol; a treaty signed by many nations to help reduce the greenhouse gases that affect the environment.

The Monaco Embassy in Washington, D.C. is known as “The Green House”, a nickname given it by a Monaco travel site. Many believe that this embassy was established in order for Monaco to exert influence over the US Congress on social and environmental issues. Monaco publishes Gross Domestic Product statistics, which allows them to have full participation in the Third World and donates 7% of GDP to UN agencies appropriately.

The “plant a billion trees” campaign has Prince Albert’s participation. The purpose of this campaign is for companies, communities and other organizations to plant more trees in their surrounding areas. Participants pledge to report how many trees they commit to plant to the United Nations Environment Program. The goal of the program is for at least 1 billion trees to be planted worldwide each year.

From April 19-27, 2008, the Tennis Masters Series will take place at the Monte Carlo Country Club. This event attracts the elite of the male and female tennis arena, many hailing directly from Monaco. Prince Albert will once again take the opportunity to use the popular annual event to raise money for sustainable development of the country, as well as environmental protection endeavors. The proceeds from the event go directly to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

It is easy to see that Prince Albert cares much about the environment of his country. There was concern that the residents of Monaco would not share Prince Albert’s enthusiasm for environmental causes.

Would his spotlight on environmental issues diminish their claim to fame as a favorite tourist attraction country, with the Monaco Grand Prix and other popular venues? Since Prince Albert has found a way to keep environmental issues in the UN and not hurt revenues within the country, however, people are onboard with Prince Albert and they congratulate his efforts.

Tenerife is one of the seven Canary Islands off the coast of Africa and a favourite destination in the winter for European holidays, and the island is now looking at how it can improve it’s environmental record, in both the public and private sectors.

Tenerife and Tourism

The island of Tenerife is almost completely dependent on tourism, and is a particular favourite for British tourists.

Known among many in the UK as ‘Paradise Island’ Tenerife is sunny year-round, which makes it the perfect destination for relaxing in the sun any time of the year. And they want to keep the tourists coming back.

Going green and protecting the environment is one way that Tenerife can protect its status as a hot holiday spot that won’t have her reputation damaged as being environmentally unfriendly.

The island is vulnerable because it is so dependent on tourism. Changing climates could easily put them out of business and entirely change the nature of the island. Rising temperature alone could make relaxing on the beach an unbearable past-time, so acting to stop global warming makes a lot of the sense for Tenerife.

Travelling to and around Tenerife

Travel is a major cause of environmental concerns and a ferry is available to take holidaymakers to the island of Tenerife from the Spanish mainland. The ferry goes to either Santa Cruz de Tenerife or Los Cristanos. Nearly half a million visitors come to the island of Tenerife via cruise ships.

The main method of transportation on the island of Tenerife is buses. An elaborate fleet of newer buses which have less of a carbon footprint provide transportation for one location to another on the island. There are also plans for a light rail network to connect the capital with the south side of the island. The idea is to reduce the amount of carbon emissions in the air caused by ground travel.

Tenerife Goes Green

Tenerife is doing a lot to protect its beautiful and natural environment. The island has made a commitment to individuals and companies to go beyond the basics and protect the environment of the island with aggressive tactics.

Some of the things they are currently doing include:

* To use water purification and its natural reserves from underground.

* To promote recycling as a means to cut back on using natural resources.

* To use desalination for non drinking water.

* Cutting back on carbon emissions.

* An elaborate bus network to minimize traffic on the island.

* To protect the habitat of tropical pilot whales, which is a huge attraction for holiday-makers.

* Zoning half of the islandas either a national park or nature reserves.

* Promoting more renewable energy.

In addition to protecting the island’s natural surroundings, Tenerife is dedicated to preserving its heritage and culture.

Tenerife as a Role Model for Protecting the Environment

While we all have seen some of the effects of global warming, Tenerife has taken action to protect the environment and retain the beauty and reputation of the island. The steps they’ve taken to reduce emissions and balance carbon in the air are ongoing and under regular review.

Society as a whole is submerged… submerged within the depths of marketing campaigns run by corporate giants? This is a question that anyone could ask and anytime it is asked, could unveil a certain degree of truth in anyone’s life “How did the community - the society arrive at where it is at now?”. The energy industry is filled with giants dictating (could you say dictating? how you ever found out for yourself?) what energies are consumed by the general populace.

If you look to see at how products have become popular, you may find it has been through TV, advertising, celebrities - many of which are endorsed by large corporate organizations and carry along with their ads, the message of these corporations. Thus, you are looking at a large fabric through which many of us look, squint or even peer through to see what is actually available to us in almost any commercial market.

In addition, the current fuels which in general use have relatively high and dangerous waste products. Thus, the information could be said to not be widely known by the general populace as when informed, make better decisions. And so we could say, perhaps ignorance is the path to domination by a few and a dark destiny. If you have any questions and would rather not know, don’t take heed the claims of global warming, increased volatility of weather conditions and/or a Mother Earth’s cry for help.

Although, now with the Internet, many new markets, pockets of clique’s, interest groups, etc… have evolved and are evolving allowing for products to be sold which were not before, services to be offered and the demand filled. It is true that now more millionaires have been made than ever before and many of which have come from the Internet.

Apart of this evolution, new information comes to light such as that which has been found with such things as Hydrogen fuels. Most fuels which are seen on the market currently are centralized and controlled under corporate blankets. If you look at petroleum or nearly any current technology used in mass production of general energy consumption (for example the energy that arrives to your house comes from large plants - centralized - the gas from your car comes from large plants - centralized, etc…, etc…) you will find is centralized and controlled by large corporate structures. But along with these new emerging groups are the green energy groups.

Alternate fuels keep punching away at the headlines of magazines and newspapers (possibly filled with propaganda?) about these various fuels. But, the repetition and noise generated by these green energy groups can but help being heard as the news is ground breaking and shaking it as well.

One of these groups is that has been forming at an incredibly rapid rate is the Hydrogen from water groups. These guys are using water and a basic form of electrolysis (use of electricity such as that which comes from you car battery to electrify water and perform a chemical reaction) to create Hydrogen from ordinary water. This technology has existed since 1820 but also with additional new technologies which have come about, this process is now available to anyone.

Hydrogen is also known as a comparable to gasoline as it is 3X’s as explosive and converts back to water when combusted. Why hasn’t it been in use in vehicles already? (If the answer is not apparent, pleas re-read earlier paragraphs and find out for yourself)

The ease of use and availability of the parts to make hydrogen from water has lead many people from the world to take part. The hydrogen’s most popular use has been to supplement car’s gasoline in-take.

Hydrogen use with car installations as a gas supplement is really only the beginning of the use of hydrogen power as 1 jar of water (approx 6 ounces) will convert to large amounts of hydrogen (as water is basically a “compressed” form of hydrogen) and can be used to power houses, RVs running them for weeks.

The proportions may seem fantastic but when you take into account the fact that HHO (hydroxy) when combusted, turns back to water, you have a fuel which has tremendous potential for efficiency, longevity and cost savings due to the fact is this planet’s largest resource available as a free burning energy.

Anyone who does a simple search with Google on the Internet with HHO, hydroxy, HHO generator or any of the such will find thousands upon thousands of documents representing the growing numbers of people across the world who are taking part of this emerging group across the net which is now extending it’s fabric through to local communities and allowing for a greener planet by cutting out pollutants, cutting down on the need for gasoline, improving gas mileage and a myriad of other eco-friendly solutions to normal day living.

So, count your pennies a little less, take hit and punch through a bit of this fabric which has perhaps been paid out in front of your eyes by the blankets of corporate marketing campaigns. Do a search on the net, check out the afore mentioned sites and see, perhaps it is true that you don’t have to spend so much gas or be in the dark on alternative energies.

When consumers use alternative fuels both to gas up their car as well as heat and cool their homes, they are helping the environment as well as helping themselves.

The toxins that are released into the air when we burn gasoline and other fuels have shown to contribute to global warming and before we know it, winter will be as warm as summer.

In the simplest form, an alternative fuel is one that is not produced by using crude oil. They are simply fuels that replace conventional gasoline as a means of powering vehicles. Alternative fuels have desirable energy efficiency and pollution reduction features. The 1990 Clean Air Act encourages development and sale of alternative fuels.

There are many different kinds of alternative fuels and the most prominent one as well as the one that has been around the longest is ethanol.

Ethanol is made from corn which is a great help to our farmers as well as to consumers and the environment. Ethanol is sometimes called grain alcohol. It can also be made from organic materials including agricultural crops and waste, plant material left from logging, and trash including paper.

The alcohol found in alcoholic beverages is ethanol. However, the ethanol used for motor fuel is denatured, which means poison has been added so people can’t drink it. Some people believe that producing ethanol takes more energy than it gives back and for the most part, this is true. However, technologies have evolved in such a way that it is possible to increase the efficiency of producing ethanol.

The growing trend toward alternative fuels will probably grow as we become more and more conscious of how we are damaging our environment through our habits and products we use. New alternative fuels are being developed all the time and having a choice will certainly be a nice alternative itself.
