I don’t know what it means, but I know this…
you are not officially illegal, and that means you are breaking the law.
You should be arrested, or leave the country.
The law is the law, no exceptions. Ignorance or forgetfulness is no excuse to not oblige by the laws of this country.
If you cared enough to stay here, and reap the benefits of being in the USA, you wouldn’t have forgot to renew your green card.

I’m not sure but go to this site. You may get the answer you need;. You would also be able to make an appointment with an immigration agent to help you with forms. Good luck and God Bless!
If you go and tell them your card is expired and file the paperwork for renewal, your fairly safe. If you get caught with it expired then they will consider you in the country illegally and request deportation proceedings. It’s best to be proactive instead of reactive.

try the site below. It says you may have some trouble proving you are a legal resident with the expired card so arrange its renewal as soon as you can .
get off the computer and go get it renewed
Despite all of the dire warnings the US Government makes about deportation and legal actions, you can still reapply. However in order to not get messed with get an immigration lawyer to do the paperwork.
It’s a little something called RESPONSIBILITY
No you will not be deported. Contact USCIS office and ask if the procedure is any different now that the card is expired (maybe the fee is different etc.) and file as they instruct you. In the meantime you won’t be able to travel anywehere and it may take up to a year from when you file to receive the new card. Number to USCIS is (800) 375-5283.
Go to the USCIS office in your area and apply for renewal. They will place a temporary stamp in your passport (even an expired passport but this will not be accepted as proof of residency by employers). Or if you do not have a passport, USCIS will issue you a temporary document with a photo as proof of status. This temporary stamp/document is valid for one year. Your green card will arrive in 10-12 months.
No you will not be deported. But an expired card makes it difficult to prove your legal permanent residency status for employment, benefits or re-entry into the US after traveling abroad. So it’s best you do it sooner and not later.
