Dan M asked:

I am trying to clean a ceiling for a friend. My friend uses fuel oil to heat the house to save money. Unfortunately, fuel oil leaves a residue on the ceilings and walls that is very difficult to clean off. What cleanser works the best to wash it off? I am willing to use gasoline to clean it but he thinks that is too extreme. I have tried using soaps, rubbing alcohol, and bleach with little success.

clean fuel

I would be more incline to go with a paint thinner rather than gasoline ….it’s not as volatile and shouldn’t hurt aluminum
Or you could go with motsenbocker #2 see link=-1catalogId=10053ci_sku=100654415ci_src=14110944cm_mmc=shopping-_-googlebase-_-D24X-_-100654415locStoreNum=2722marketID=72

If you are worried about fumes, about the best household cleaner to use on fuel oil is 409. If fumes aren’t a concern, xylene or toluene are about the best solvents you can find on the market. If you use those, you have to make sure you keep very good ventilation and wear rubber gloves. I use it to clean fuel oil off of counters daily in the laboratory.
