The style I’m going for is my hair up in a pony tail with two small strands hanging down framing my face. These two strands would be dyed green (preferably a neon green). I only want it in my hair for 1 night (though i could handle, at most 3). Because I have brown/reddish hair, they say I have to lighten my hair to strip it of its brown. But since I only want those two small strands dyed, and for so short of a time, I don’t want those two strands to be a lighter shade than the rest of my hair when it finally comes out. Suggestions?

We are well into spring and summer is just around the corner! Now is the time when unwanted multi-legged squatters start invading your home. You want to get rid of them, but you don’t want to use Chem-o-kill to do it. Here are some easy ways to prevent and evict insects with environmentally friendly means.

The first way to keep bugs out of your home is the simplest - clean. A clean home provides less of a haven for unwanted insects to set up shop. Regular sweeping, vacuuming, wiping and dusting can stop infestations from starting or address small numbers of unwanted guests. Try to minimize clutter by having plenty of storage off the floor.

Invest in reusable, waterproof and airtight containers to store foodstuffs in. The more secure the container, the less likely pests will be attracted to it or be able to start munching away. This is also useful for non-food items that may be targets of different insects, such as clothing. Some waterproof tubs for out-of-season wear can help prevent unpleasant discoveries when it comes time to break out the summer or winter clothes.

For ants, try baby powder or cinnamon sprinkled on entryways. You can also poison ants with a mixture of equal parts of honey, sugar and borax. Heat the honey and sugar together until the sugar dissolves. Then add the borax. Put a spoonful on ant pathways and on hills. Watch pets and children while you have the bait out; as little 5 grams of borax can be deadly! It can help if you put the mixture in a small dish or large bottle cap, which can help you dispose of the remainder more easily.

Try soil-free potting mix for plants infested by insects or larvae. Soil can contain larvae of pest insects, while the soil-free mediums tend not to support them. Ask your local nursery for more information about ways to cut down on plant parasites.

Essential oils are another method that some people find keeps the bugs away. Cedarwood, citronella, peppermint oil and rosemary oil tend to have a repellant effect on insects. These tend to have a pleasant scent; citronella in particular is a popular anti-bug strategy.

Garlic, ginger, hot peppers and onions are unpalatable for many bugs and tend to keep them away. While none of these are harmful to humans, in some venues the pungent smell might be off-putting, so be circumspect in the usage. Boiling some sliced hot peppers for 10 minutes can produce a good outdoor bug spray - just make sure you’ve got a lot of ventilation while making and using it! It is recommended that this be used solely outdoors - in the garden, workshop area, etc.

While environmentally friendly solutions to insect pest problems often don’t work as immediately as the standard poisons, they are a lot healthier for you and your family to use. Exploring the green alternative means that you will worry less about your health while still keeping the bugs outside where they belong!

It was about 9:30 pm and I was going past a red light camera area. The light flashed once to my left and then another time right in front of me and was almost blinding.

The thing is though, the light was green when I was driving. Could it be that it flashed at someone else? I also am pretty sure I was not speeding.

The safety of vehicles is always a very important consideration to make when choosing a new vehicle. It is also something that you will need to think about if you are deciding whether or not to convert your car to run on any form of alternative fuel.

Many people contemplating converting their cars to run on LPG wonder just how safe LPG is as a fuel. Because it’s called Liquid Petroleum Gas many people are concerned about its stability. Gas might be quite dangerous, however LPG isn’t necessarily.

LPG is a very safe fuel which has some excellent reports for safety, the main reason that LPG cars and trucks are safe is because of the way the fuel tank is constructed. This fuel tank is different to a petrol tank and is much more robust, this means that it won’t become damaged as easily.

LPG installations also have safety features to help prevent danger if there is a leak. LPG systems use quick fuel cut off systems which use 3 solenoids to shut off the LPG system if there is an accident, or if the car is not currently running. If an accident causes any damage to the fuel lines then the flow of gas will automatically be cut off.

Many people are so interested in the safety of using alternative fuels because they are considering using them in their vehicles which will carry their children. Any LPG system will be safe as long as it is installed professionally. Remember these are not the types of system that you can install by yourself in a weekend, by doing that you are asking for trouble.

So is LPG really safe?

Believe it or not LPG is perfectly safe; it is perfectly stable and is no more dangerous than petrol. As the tanks are even tougher than petrol tanks safety is ensured. No matter whether LPG is installed in a car or commercial vehicle such as a van or truck the system is still safe.

If you are ever in an accident then your car will automatically shut off the supply of LPG in a similar way to how many cars shut off their petrol supply. This ensures that you are kept safe without the risk of any fuel catching fire.

Some people are more worried about installing LPG in their car because petrol tanks will remain in the vehicle. Your car has been designed to hold a petrol tank, however just because you fit an LPG tank it doesn’t mean that it’s bad news. As long as your alternative fuel tank is installed professionally it shouldn’t cause any problems.

All LPG tanks and systems undergo a series of tests to ensure that they won’t put you in any danger. Any decent alternative fuel system will ensure that the fuel supply is cut should your car ever be in an accident.

Alternative fuels are the way of the future, but that doesn’t mean you have to make any compromises in terms of the safety of your car.

Soap Nuts as a Natural Laundry Detergent to Wash Your Clothes. http://www.berryclean.com

Imagine buying something that has no harsh chemicals in it. Something that was made in a 100% natural way and gives you no anxiety or fear of disease. Along with all this something that comes from the bounty of the nature and helps us restore and preserve. When you buy soap nuts you are giving back to the environment by not polluting it via synthetic detergents. So go green, go natural and go the soap nuts way.

Natural detergent that has given new meaning to washing your clothes safely is the “Soap nut”. Soap nuts are a revolutionary and interesting natural detergent and the best part is they grow literally on trees. A soap nut tree to be precise.  In the Asian countries of India and Indonesia they have been used for centuries with great results. They are good for both your clothes and you and are a gift of nature.  They grow on a tree called sapindus mukorrosi or the Chinese Soapberry Tree. Their outer shell is dried and can be used as soap by combining 2-3 of these nuts in a small bag.

No matter how much care you take in washing your clothes and personal items, you will often see your garments fade in color and fall apart much before you expect them to. They are still young and new but something is taking away life from them. You go to the store you bought them from and complain of bad quality, you curse your washing machine but the real culprit is hidden safely in your house. The harmful synthetic detergents and fabric softeners are the actual cause behind the loss of shine from your clothes.

So go green, go natural and go the soap nuts way. http://www.berryclean.com

In this age of increasing concern for the health of the planet it is more important than ever to look at ways of minimising the long term impact of buildings upon the environment and to investigate new methods of sustainable construction.

A new kind of building technology is emerging as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional building methods. This technology produces structures which are highly efficient in terms of the amount of material used in their construction, require no permanent foundations, can be relocated easily, and can recycled.

The buildings in question are in fact a new generation of inflatable buildings. These are no ordinary inflatables however. They are designed using the latest CAD technology and structural analysis software and are constructed from modern, fire retardant, composite textiles which are cut and joined using techniques developed form aerospace manufacturing. This enables the buildings to operate at higher pressures than conventional inflatable structures producing much stiffer, stronger structures.

It’s important at this point to make a distinction between air-supported buildings and inflatable buildings. A traditional air-supported building is one which is comprised of a single layer membrane attached to the ground around its perimeter. Air is blown under the membrane to lift it off the ground and form the shape of the building.

An inflatable building on the other hand, uses two layers of membrane connected together typically using spars made from the same material. The cavity formed between the layers is pressurised with air producing a rigid structural element which allows large span structures to be achieved.

The structures, pioneered by Tectoniks Limited in the UK, are extremely weight efficient and are highly portable yet they have the strength of metal-framed portable buildings and can be made into virtually any shape.

So what makes them so environmentally friendly? Well, firstly, the majority of a finished inflatable building is made from fresh air. Analysis of a finished structure shows that the amount of textile used represents only 0.5% of the volume of the structure. For example, one square metre of a 500mm thick inflatable wall has a volume of 0.5 cubic metres but the quantity of fabric used in its construction is only 0.0025 cubic metres. An inflatable building must surely be the most efficient of all building types in terms of the amount of raw materials used compared to the volume of the finished structure.

Since the textiles are supplied in roll form, the materials required for an entire building can be transported in a single medium-sized van thereby minimising the effect of transporting raw materials upon the environment.

Thanks to initiatives such as the TexyloopTM service pioneered by Ferrari Textiles, the scrap material produced during the manufacture of inflatable buildings can be collected, recycled and made into new composite textiles.

The inflatable buildings produced by Tectoniks Ltd. have a long life expectancy but when they do eventually reach the end of their service they can also be recycled using services such as Texyloop.

Another environmental benefit of inflatable buildings is that they do not require permanent foundations. Conventional buildings usually require concrete foundations which are permanent and cannot be moved. An inflatable building would typically be anchored using spiral anchors which are literally screwed into the ground. If a building needs to be relocated, the anchors are unscrewed and used again. The flooring used in the buildings is modular and can be laid on top of the ground. It can also be re-used if the building is moved.

Once an inflatable building has been moved, there is no lasting impact upon the site where it used to be.

Another important consideration when assessing the environmental impact of a building is the energy used throughout its life. Because Tectoniks structures are of a welded construction (as opposed to stitched), they are virtually air tight. Conventional stitched inflatables require high power electric blowers which run constantly. Tectoniks structures require much smaller blowers which are connected to a control system which only activates them when the pressure in the structure falls below a certain level. The blowers then run for a few seconds to top up the pressure.

The low power requirement for these structures means that it is entirely possible to use solar power to provide the electricity required for their operation.

Inflatable buildings also have a natural level of insulation provided by the air contained within the walls. Tectoniks have also pioneered methods for adding additional insulation within the inflatable walls. The insulation material is flexible and is packed up with the building when deflated.

If the environmental impact of a new building is a major concern, then the benefits of using Tectoniks inflatable structures are well worth consideration. For more information visit Tectoniks.com

When I say green coffee I’m not talking about the colour, I’m talking about it being environmentally sound.

When we purchase our favorite ‘mocha’ from our regular coffee supplier, how much thought do we actually give to where our coffee comes from, and what happens to our waste when we throw it away? If you’re like me… until very recently, not a great deal. But with issues such as global warming having a more and more noticeable impact on our world, it’s about time we sat up and took notice.

In today’s economic crisis you’d be forgiven for not worrying too much about our environment, but one company I came across who is clearly doing their bit for eco friendly distribution is Flavia a coffee drinks machine manufacturer who pride themselves on ‘doing their bit’ to support environmental change.

The Flavia drinks machine prides itself on being more economical than other brands and supports sustainability in all of its projects. Flavia producers of coffee and drinks machine’s, are among some of the number one advocates in the fight to protect our environment.

The filter-packs used to store the drinks are reused and turned into energy… so not only do you get your caffeine boost… so does the world! This is all part of the ‘Thirsty For Change’ campaign which more and more coffee and drinks machine distributors should join in order to make the world a ‘greener’ place. Most big manufacturers are now thinking BIG in order to think green. A lot of consumers now refuse to buy products that aren’t eco friendly – and as such, if manufacturers want to stay in business they are doing everything they can to give consumers what they want.

So as a consumer, make sure you insist on eco friendly products and only buy from companies that support environmental change…

So rather than purchase your beverage of choice from the local coffee shop, why not stay in the office – utilize the drinks machine and enjoy a cup of quality coffee knowing that you’re helping the environment one ‘latte’ at a time.
