Douglas Gregory asked:

There is a huge demand for environmentally friendly promotional products. They are increasingly used in corporate events, such as press conferences, seminars, tradeshows, camps, and many more. The popularity of green promotional products can be attributed to their low-cost feature. They are made from recycled materials, such as paper, plastic, rubber, and so on. However, they look elegant and attractive.

By choosing the environmentally friendly promotional products for your brand promotion activities, you can show your customers that you are concerned not just about your business, but also about the safety of our planet. The green gifts reflect your commitment towards nature and encourage others to join the initiative to protect the earth from being a dustbin.

There are different types of promotional items made out of recycled wastes. For example, you can get items, such as pens, carrier bags, notepads, memo blocks, and coasters from recycled papers and cardboards. Many items, such as pen pots, mouse mats and coasters are produced from recycled tire parts. Also you can get many plastic items like the keyrings, pens, coasters, and many more made from recycled plastic items.

Environmentally friendly promotional products also include different types of gift items that do not damage our environment. There are different types of clothing, headwear, bags, and conference folders that are made from environmentally friendly materials, such as natural rubber, leather, cotton, and so on. These materials are biodegradable, so they do not harm the environment.

People are becoming more conscious about the environmental hazards produced by non-biodegradable products such as plastic. They are committed to offering their support for the green initiative. If you offer the green gifts to such customers, you will be lauded. They will value your efforts in promoting the green message through your promotional products. As a result, they will develop a respect and confidence in your brand. This faith will grow and bear fruit in the long run.

While offering the promotional gifts to your loyal customers, you will also imprint the brand name and logo on them. If you can add a message that will inspire your customers to be part of the green initiative, your effort will be highly appreciated. Many customers are concerned about the quality and attractiveness of products made from recycled materials. However, you can show them that their concerns are baseless. There are very good environmentally friendly promotional gifts available in the market that are attractive and long lasting. They are suitable for your green promotion.

Computer recycling refers to the practice of salvaging useable components from obsolete electronic devices or safely disposing off electronic devices. It is a practice that each one of us must inculcate because inappropriate handling of discarded computers and other electronic devices can cause environmental hazards.

Studies estimate that over 40 million electronic pieces become obsolete annually. These pieces have constituents such as lead, cadmium, barium, and mercury, which are hazardous to the environment. In a landfill, these materials seep into the ground and then into our food and water supplies. This can cause serious health concerns over a long period.

Obsolete Computers: Environmental Threats

Obsolete computers that are simply dumped in the garbage drums are the biggest threat to the environment. The computer monitors have cathode ray tubes containing four to five pounds of lead that contaminates the environment acutely. Besides lead, the computers have many other hazardous elements such as mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium. When inhaled over a long period, these elements cause high blood pressure, liver and nerve disease, blood with poor iron, and even brain damage to the exposed group. This causes great concern, considering several million computers become obsolete annually.

Therefore, we must handle the obsolete electronic devices carefully. Moreover, different Environmental Laws have banned the illegal landfills by the disposals of computers and other electronic equipment. These laws necessitate sending the un-functional computers to a reputable recycler for harmless recycling. The laws also specify the need for regular recycling to avoid such computers from piling up.

There are several methods to deal with old computers. Some of them are as follows:

· Give It For Reuse: If your computer is in a decent condition, you can sell it to a company or an individual so that it can be used further, or simply donate it to someone needy.

· Trade It In: There are many computer dealers (e.g. HP) who offer trade-in promotions on computers and peripherals.

· Auction It: You can sell the computer on eBay or any other auction site. You can also organize a quick garage sale and see if any of your friends or neighbors wants the computer.

· Set up a Server: You can continue using the old computer as a server to store and share data.

· Salvage Some Parts: You can see which parts of your computers are in good working condition. You can salvage those parts and use them in your new computer.

Go for computer recycling and safe the planet earth!

Whether OPEC likes it or not, hybrid owners are changing the landscape for car sales and automobile ownership. The process has been slow. Many people were not and are still not ready to pay the extra money to buy a hybrid. Some fear that technology will bypass the hybrid in the next couple of years, making their purchase a bad investment. Many people do not want to be the first one to buy a strange, new technology, just like when the regular car came into existence. Others have found that tax incentives and saving money on gas are the best reasons to go hybrid. For most hybrid buyers, however, the environmental reasons to buy one have outweighed any other reasons or any negative fallout that is present now or foreseeable in the future.

1. Emissions: With all the news about high gas prices and people across the country feeling the effects in their pockets, having a hybrid sounds like a great idea. Hybrids are super-efficient with their use of gas because they rely on electricity for some of their power. This has made it possible for hybrids to get great mileage. The environmental impact is phenomenal. Hybrids use less gas sending fewer emissions into the air. Chemicals from dioxide, to nitrogen oxide all get into the air with gas cars. Although hybrids still emit some fumes and toxic elements, they are performing so well that the EPA has made special ratings for them because they are putting about 90% fewer emissions into the air.

2. Getting Gas: Acquiring gas has become a major concern for the entire world. Having to build more refineries to produce gas will only put more chemicals into the air. Finding places to get oil are also becoming harder to find. Many have objected to the government’s desire to drill in the protected parks of Alaska. Depending less on oil helps contributes to less destruction of our natural resources.

3. Effects on the Human Environment: When emissions get churned into the air, the environment is not the only place that suffers. The human body does not take well to the excessive amounts of carbon dioxide, lead and other chemicals that gas-guzzling cars use. Sitting in traffic, one experiences the odors alone that carry the cancer causing agents. All of the chemicals produced by emissions have been linked to cancer, birth defects and a number of other preventable conditions.

4. Ride the Environmental Wave: Many people say that buying a hybrid is a great idea, but not everyone buys one. It is hard to blame people, since the cost is thousands of dollars more than for a regular car, but for those who are taking the first steps, they are contributing to environmental awareness. Choosing a hybrid helps the market get the price down, which allows for more people to buy them. Buying a hybrid is one of the best ways to get the environmental domino effect moving.

5. Encourage the Government: Buying a hybrid car is beginning to get some encouragement from the government. Known for being dependant on foreign oil for years, the Federal government is beginning to see the benefits of hybrid cars being on the market and is offering tax credits through the end of 2006. Each person that buys a hybrid can be eligible for up to a $2,000 credit on their tax return. When more and more hybrids are purchased, it is likely that the government will consider the environment in its decisions.

Numerous other reasons to buy hybrids are being offered by the makers of hybrids, those who have already purchased one, and by dealerships. To many, any issues that makers are having with the production of hybrids seem like less of a problem than finding real ways to stay green. Emissions and efficiency have come to the forefront of people’s minds more and more as gas prices rise. People are starting to be more concerned about the effects of high emissions on their health, and their future grandchildren. Choosing a hybrid makes a huge statement to the government and to other consumers. More and more people are beginning to “choose green” when they buy a vehicle, which encourages more people that doing so is the right way to go.

Abhishek Agarwal asked:

Globally, more and more people are expressing an interest in switching from gasoline powered vehicles to ones that operate using alternative fuels. Alternative fuels that are environmentally friendly, can actually help to conserve the natural resources that are used to produce gasoline, and protect the environment as well. Drilling and other invasive methods will no longer be necessary, protecting the habitats of many endangered creatures.

For those who are thinking of making the switch to an alternative fuel vehicle or AFV, it’s important to investigate all the alternatives available before settling on just one choice. While almost everyone agrees that AFV’s are better for the environment, costs and the limitations of owning them should be carefully considered. At this time, AFV choices are somewhat limited but the growing consumer demand will inevitably drive the costs lower and improve the choices available.

Four Facts About Alternative Fuels

1. Electricity, liquefied petroleum gas, methanol, ethanol, and compressed natural gas, produce fewer vehicle emissions than traditional gasoline and diesel. Studies have shown that each of them contributes toward a cleaner environment.

2. Unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and dioxide, nitrogen oxides and particulate materials; standard tailpipe emissions from gasoline and diesel powered vehicles, are responsible for about one-third of U.S. air pollutants. Vehicles powered by alternative fuels would reduce these emissions considerably. Also, many alternative fuels promote the U.S. economy because they can be produced domestically.

3. On a gallon-per-gallon basis, some alternative fuels will not permit consumers to travel as far or as long as they could in a gasoline or diesel propelled vehicle. So they have a lower energy output. At this time, an alternatively fuel vehicle also costs more than a conventional automobile.

4. Alternative fuels utilize a wide variety of materials, for example old grease that restaurants used for frying, vegetable oils, electricity, recycled paper and plant wastes are used to create fuel. These are all cleaner burning that petroleum products, and have less impact upon the environment.

The above are only a few of the facts concerning alternative fuels. Each individual type of “green fuel” has its own pluses and minuses but they all deserve investigation by those who are sincerely interested in cutting energy costs and protecting the environment. Every day, new advances are being made as research into this area grows. New sources of alternative fuels are under investigation and development. Perhaps, the answer is not just one type of alternative fuel being better than the rest, but that a group of “green” energy sources will be optimal.

The natural world is constantly changing, but many environmental changes today are being brought about by the pollution emissions of our automobiles. When we consider the global impacts of changing to alternative fuel vehicles, it becomes obvious that this is more than just an option. In the very near future, it must become an active part of our lifestyles. We owe it to the future of our planet to make changes now.

Mylar is a polyester film. This is trade name used for some of products made from boPET films. It was first developed by DuPont in 1950’s and it was first used in 1960 by NASA. They used Mylar to make Echo satellite, thus these films have various properties. So these have various applications and uses.

Based on several combinations of finishes, types and thickness these have different varieties. These are made using liquid Polythene Terephthalate & are crystallized using heated rollers. These sheets are rolled in various directions. 5 types of sheets are available and 4 types of finishes are available. Different types of Mylar films are Plain, Anti-static, Adhesion treated, Moralized and Barrier coated. Various finishes of Mylar film are black, white, haze and clear. Its thickness varies from 12 um to 350 um.

These have uses in solar systems, marine, industry, packing, covering, electronic applications. Mylar has high tensile strength, reflective properties, stiffness, and have very clarity in material. These films reflect up to 90% of sunlight, even infrared rays and ultraviolet rays too. These films can adhere even in extreme environments. So used by scientists in experiment purposes too.

These films don’t get contaminated by gases or water. This material also acts as good insulation against electricity in cold and hot conditions. Other properties of Mylar are low coefficient of friction, high wear and tear power, high stability, and low to high shrinkage in any direction. There are many colors, sizes which are available in Mylar films. To change its smoothness and to increase its roughness any desired material can be added. These materials also add new properties and increase its use. Various types of inorganic materials and chemicals can be added.

The films are Environmental friendly polymers. This is also the one of the main reason that they are used up to a large extent. This is environmental friendly because it is safe, non – toxic, don’t have plasticizers, and don’t contain heavy metals. These are light weight polymers. So these are replacing very high weighted materials such as metals. The main advantages of this polymer are that these can be recycled. Because of its advantages its application are increasing. More and more new things are being developed & this material is replacing many of other materials. You just cannot ignore the importance of plastic in daily life. Polyester is one such replacement for coatings & these are film coatings used to increase the life of any fragile material or to beautify different presentable objects.

Ever heard of the famous Professor Wangari Maathai? She is a Nobel Peace Price Laureate, the Member of Parliament for Tetu Constituency, the founder and leader of the Green Belt Movement. With so many attributes to her name, she is the so down to earth Lady that you may not pick up from the large crowds she pulls campaigning for the conservation of the environment both Globally and in Kenya, where she was born and Brought up.

Like in many many other countries in the world, Kenya has had its share of deforestation through illegal logging, land degradation by use rudiment ally farming practices and burning of fossil fuels leading to the Global warming threat, where the world is expected to warm up by over 2 degrees centigrade over the next 100 years. It expected that increased temperature changes could lead to drastic and erratic weather changes with some parts of the world becoming either too hot or too cold. This is going to affect food production to an ever growing population especially in the less developed African countries making human survival harder than in any other period in the history of mankind.

Professor Wangari Maathai has has taken the leading role in organizing communities and Non-Governmental organizations into condeming land grabbing, degazettement of forest land and illegal logging, through her Green Belt movement. Many youth groups and women organizations have taken the cue from her and started indigenous tree nurseries all over Kenya. These initiatives are going to change the face of Kenya, making your dreams of that coveted Safari even more interesting, imagine all the bare countryside coming to life with lush green indigenous trees that save our soils from the from raging rain waters running into the rivers that feed our National animal conservatories.

As a tourist in Kenya, you could get involved. Lets call it an environmental Safari. You could help plant a tree or two. Let us exchange views. What is your country doing to conserve the environment? What lessons can Kenyans learn from from your country’s’ conservation efforts? Do you have an alternative to fuel wood that 90% of Kenyans use? What will Kenya do with the menace of plastic waste management? The list is endless, but the options are there with you and the whole lot of us will appreciate.

Kenyans are a very hospitable people. They wil not mind to host you as a tourist as you travel to other coveted tourist destinations scattered all over the country. Talk of budget travel and you have it, it cannot come cheaper. There are many diverse tribes in Kenya and you are sure to be treated to the many traditional cuisine that are prepared in the countryside. You will also be treated to the many cultural events, unique to each cultural group.
